A Trip to Portland and the Genesis of Chasing the Wild Wonder

Back in May, Lacie and I got to take a quick little vacation to Portland, Oregon. WITHOUT KIDS! I capitalize that because, well, it NEVER happens. It's not that we don't like taking our kids on vacation, but it's just nice to have a little time to ourselves. Especially since we didn't get much time to ourselves because we got pregnant pretty much right after we got married...and we got married almost right after we met. But I digress.

Back to Portland! We spent the weekend exploring and checking out Airstreams! It was a great life refresher and we were able to get some clarity and make some decisions on how we want to move forward! We also came up with our name on this trip; "Chasing the Wild Wonder".

It was a great experience as we rode bikes through the city to the Saturday market, got some coffee(as you do when you're in Portland), checked out the beautiful Chinese garden, tried Blue Star donuts (which I highly recommend!) Watched the sun set over the city from Pittock Mansion and ended the night at The Holy Shift tour with Rob Bell and Peter Rollins.
Check out our vlog of the weekend below!

The Wild Wonder; What it is and why we want to chase it.

I think a lot of people, when they grow up and start "adulting", get so caught up in the minutia of life; working, paying bills, cooking dinner, washing dishes, laundry... the list goes on and on, we start to forget and lose that childlike sense of wonder where everything in the world is new and amazing and the sense that there is so much to learn about life, the world, and the whole cosmos. Partly because our days aren't anything new anymore. It's like we get stuck in a time loop, reliving the same day over and over again.

And so that's what we did. The AMERICAN DREAM! "Settled down" as they say. But I gotta be honest with you guys... IT SUCKS! The american dream is a sham. a rat race. a continual grasping for the ever illusive 'more'. Well, we are done chasing the american dream. Done with chasing more; more wealth, more comfort; more things, etc... Instead we want to chase love. Chase experiences. Chase being outside in nature. Chase creativity. Chase the Wild Wonder.

WILD - adjective
living in a state of nature; not tamed or domesticated

WONDER -
verb
to think or speculate curiously, to be filled with admiration, amazement, or awe; marvel, to doubt

noun
something strange and surprising; a cause of surprise, astonishment, or admiration, the emotion excited by what is strange and surprising; a feeling of surprised or puzzled interest, sometimes tinged with admiration.

This website, this blog, and this 'brand' will be dedicated to our pursuit to live a life in awe, in reverence, in mystery, and in wonder as we embrace the world and hopefully help others see the wonder and mystery along the way.

So thank you for joining us as we follow our unamerican dream to live dangerously out loud and embrace the mystery that surrounds us.
